What is Pilates Reformer?
The Pilates reformer was invented by Pilates founder Joseph Pilates, who was born in Germany in 1880 and brought his method of exercise to the United States in the 1920’s. He opened his first studio in NYC and trained dance greats such as Martha Graham and George Balanchine to develop lean muscle without bulk, to improve their stamina and performance.
The reformer is an exercise machine which was created to enhance the mat pilates technique and the workouts consist of controlled flowing movements working your muscles through a variety of movements. Body weight and resistance of the springs are what make the carriage more or less difficult to move. Reformers parts are adjustable for different body sizes and different levels of skill. The reformer makes a dramatic impression when you first see one, and an even more dramatic change in your body when you use it.

Benefits of using the Pilates Reformer:
Pilates focuses on the “powerhouse” of the body - the muscles of the abdomen, lower back and buttocks. Strengthening these muscles improves posture, core strength, increased flexibility, and reduces body fat. Additional benefits include improved muscle tone as muscles are lengthened and strengthened without appearing bulky. Having a strong core will also increase the effectiveness of all exercises performed due to your ability to maintain proper alignment. Core strength increases your ability to generate power to your muscles and decreases the risk of injury.
According to Joseph Pilates, "You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions and have a completely new body in 30 sessions". The reformer makes a dramatic impression when you first see one, and
an even more dramatic change in your body when you use it.
